County Executive Ken Jenkins and County Clerk Thomas M. Roach have announced the return of the New York State Notary Public examination to Westchester, after the test was unavailable for many years. County residents will once again have the opportunity to take the examination close to home, making it easier for those seeking to become notaries public to complete this important step without having to travel outside the County.
Jenkins said: “Bringing the Notary Public examination back to Westchester is about making government more accessible and responsive to the people we serve. For residents who want to become notaries, having the examination offered here in Westchester means greater convenience, fewer barriers and more opportunities to pursue a professional credential that serves businesses, families and communities across our County. I thank County Clerk Tom Roach for helping make this important service available to Westchester residents once again.”
Roach said: “I am very pleased to welcome this service back to Westchester. The convenience of having the test in our County will be a benefit to our businesses, government offices and residents.”
The first examination will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Westchester County Center, 198 Central Avenue, White Plains, NY 10606. Three examination sessions will be held on August 18: 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon.
For years, Westchester residents interested in becoming notaries were required to travel outside the County to take the examination, with Rockland County serving as the nearest examination location. Notaries Public play an important role in the community by serving as trusted witnesses for the execution of documents and providing notarial services to residents, businesses and organizations.
