Fort Edward Man Arrested After Setting Fire Inside Occupied Apartment Building

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff's Office arrested Nicholas R. Oliver, 31, of Fort Edward, New York, following an investigation into a structure fire at a multi-family apartment building on Third Avenue in the Town of Fort Edward.

The investigation determined that Oliver intentionally started a fire within his apartment, recklessly endangering the occupied building. Oliver fled the scene on foot without contacting emergency services. Responding deputies were able to evacuate occupants of adjoining apartments without injury and extinguished the fire prior to the arrival of fire department units.

Oliver was charged with Arson in the Fourth Degree, a class E Felony, and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a class D Felony. He was arraigned through Centralized Arraignment and released on his own recognizance. Oliver is scheduled to appear in the Town of Fort Edward Court at a later date.
