Fort Edward Man Charged With 86 Counts of Animal Cruelty
According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff's Office arrested James W. Chandler Jr., 55, of Fort Edward, New York following an investigation that determined Chandler had failed to properly provide sustenance and care for 86 cats.
The investigation was initiated in June of 2026 at a location on Broadway in the Village of Fort Edward. Due to the condition of the animals at the time of the investigation, many of the cats had to be euthanized.
Chandler was charged with 86 counts of Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, class A Misdemeanors under Section 353 of the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law.
He was processed at the Sheriff's Office and issued an Appearance Ticket to appear in Fort Edward Court at a later date.
