While the storm’s exact track and the extent of its impacts on Westchester County are still being monitored, the strongest impacts are currently expected from Friday into Sunday.
Sound Shore communities should be particularly prepared for the possibility of moderate coastal flooding. The combination of heavy rain, strong winds, high tides and a full moon could increase the risk of flooding in low-lying and flood-prone coastal areas. Communities throughout the rest of Westchester County should also prepare for periods of heavy rain and strong winds.
Jenkins said: “We are closely monitoring this storm and preparing for whatever impacts it may bring to Westchester. We are particularly concerned about our Sound Shore communities, where the combination of rain, wind and high tides could create flooding conditions. We are asking residents across the County to prepare now, use caution and avoid unnecessary travel when conditions deteriorate.”
The Westchester County Department of Emergency Services is actively monitoring the storm and coordinating preparations. The County Departments of Public Works and Transportation and Public Safety are also prepared to respond as needed.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions ahead of the storm and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of severe weather. Motorists should never drive around barricades or attempt to drive through standing or moving water on a roadway.
