Governor Hochul Announces 1.5 Million New Yorkers Can Receive Hundreds of Dollars to Help Cover Home Heating Costs

State Senator Kevin Parker said, “No New Yorker should have to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table. As heating costs continue to rise, we must stand together as a community to ensure our seniors, working families, and most vulnerable neighbors are not left out in the cold. I urge every eligible New Yorker to apply for HEAP beginning November 2, and I encourage our community organizations, local leaders, and service providers to help spread the word and connect residents with the assistance they need. We all have a role to play in looking out for one another. Keeping our neighbors warm and safe is a shared responsibility, and energy affordability must remain a priority for every community across New York State.”

State Senator Roxanne J. Persaud said, “I appreciate Governor Hochul's continued appeal to income-eligible New Yorkers to apply for Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) benefits, particularly in light of skyrocketing energy costs stretching vulnerable household budgets even further. As federal HEAP funding is not infinite, I encourage those income-eligible households that are not automatically enrolled to apply once the program opens on November 2nd."

State Senator Cordell Cleare said, “Thank you to Governor Hochul for her continued support of Older New Yorkers, including those who need HEAP to stay safe and secure through the heating season. I have been proud to partner with the Governor on streamlining the application and certification process to ensure our Seniors stay warm all winter long.”

Assemblymember Didi Barrett said, “HEAP is a lifeline for more than 1.5 million New Yorkers when the temperatures drop. With so many folks struggling with rising costs due to the federal administration's policies, New York State is committed to helping them stay warm. I thank Governor Hochul for announcing HEAP funding for the upcoming winter season and for increasing the benefits to those with deliverable fuels who often are not eligible for our existing energy affordability programs.”

Assemblymember Michaelle C. Solages said, “While Washington makes it harder to keep the lights on, New York is making sure families stay warm. With winter coming, no one should have to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table. I thank Governor Kathy Hochul for stepping up where the federal government has failed. HEAP opens November 2. If you are eligible, apply. This help is yours."

Assemblymember Maritza Davila said, “I commend Governor Kathy Hochul for opening applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). This important program provides a lifeline for low-income working families and older adults on fixed incomes. With inflation driving up energy and everyday costs, HEAP is more essential than ever to help New Yorkers keep their homes warm this winter without sacrificing other basic needs.”

Assemblymember Rebecca A. Seawright said, “No New Yorker should have to choose between keeping their home warm and paying for groceries or medication. As Aging Chair, I know how essential heating assistance is for older adults living on fixed incomes, who can be especially vulnerable during the cold winter months. I thank Governor Hochul for prioritizing this critical support and encouraging eligible New Yorkers to apply. Our community office stands ready to help residents navigate the process and connect with available assistance.”
