Governor Hochul Directs Flags To Half-Staff To Honor New York State Thruway Authority Employee Jamil Wilson
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced flags on state buildings will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, October 30, in honor of New York State Thruway Authority employee Jamil Wilson. The Governor also directed the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge to be illuminated orange on the evening of Friday, October 30. A Thruway Maintenance Worker in the Cross Westchester Expressway (CWE) Maintenance Section, Wilson was fatally injured on the CWE in the City of White Plains on October 19 while performing mowing operations.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with Jamil’s family and friends as they mourn the tragic and senseless loss of a devoted partner, parent and friend,” Governor Hochul said. “The men and women who keep our roads safe deserve the respect of our full attention when we are behind the wheel. Let Jamil’s heartbreaking loss serve as a reminder that we must all do our part of keeping each other safe on the road by focusing solely on driving, slowing down in work zones and moving over when there’s a stopped vehicle on the side of the highway.”
Jamil was a six-year employee of the New York State Thruway Authority. He is survived by his fiancée, two children and many loved ones.
